China is a country with a super large population and unbalanced regional development. Within the forty years since the reform and opening-up policy, China is currently developing its economy, society, and education at a fast pace. Then, in a country like China, how education has developed, and what roles education has played in serving its national economic and social development, have been gathering scholars’ mounting interests around the world.

China is an old country with five-thousand-year-long civilization. Respect to teachers and teaching have been rooted in Chinese tradition in its long history. You probably have heard about Confucius and the Confucianism. The core of the Confucius philosophy provides emphasis on education and talent cultivation. With such a historical tradition, in the global context of educational modernization, how to embrace contemporary and updated social themes, how to make the best use of its historical advantages and rich cultural heritage, are important to today’s world development and development of China to glow. All of above are the cultural genes of this journal.

Our ECNU Review of Education is the first English journal in China that specializes in educational research. We hope this journal will offer worldwide scholars and friends who care about Chinese education a stage for communication, discussions, and dialogues. Furthermore, we want to have a high-quality academic forum on educational development, educational experiences, and issues that come from Chinese education.

We are honored to see that this journal has already attracted some attention from a great many outstanding world scholars since its inauguration. In this inaugural issue, first, we hope that it is a place to talk about Chinese educational issues; second, (we hope that) it gathers great ideas from world scholars to add to our discussion of Chinese education; third, (we hope that) it is a journal with adequate and equal conversations.

A discussion like this will be conducive not only to help make improvements in Chinese education, and Chinese academic educational research, we believe that this discussion will also help with international communication in academia. It will not only help us integrate better into the world, but also make a positive impact on other places, with our continuous efforts and experiments.
